Sheep Mountain Lodge
Sutton, Alaska

For over 50 years, the Sheep Mountain Lodge has hosted travelers from across Alaska and around the world. The lodge is located along the scenic Glenn Highway between Palmer and Glennallen approximately 2 hours driving time from Anchorage. You can enjoy the spectacular mountain views, local outdoor recreational activities, cabins with private bath and showers, delicious home cooked meals, and old fashioned Alaskan hospitality that has made Sheep Mountain Lodge famous. Extensive decks, greenhouses and flower gardens compliment the scenery. You can watch a large resident population of Dall Sheep (thus the name Sheep Mountain Lodge) through the telescope or relax in the sauna or hot tub after a day of traveling or hiking. Flightseeing from the lodge airstrip, new for 2006, will be available from June 5 - Sept. 19.

Zack, who is both a Yukon Quest and an Iditarod finisher, actually proposed to Anjanette under the burled arch in Nome at the end of the 1998 Iditarod. http://www.adn.com/iditarod/history/1998/story/757506p-808149c.html He carried the ring in a package duct taped (I told you about Alaskans and duct tape!) to the collar of his lead dog, Henry, through the entire race.

If you are lucky and are there in the spring or summer the wild flowers will be amazing and there may be some puppies around for you to pet. If you are there in the fall the berry picking is fabulous! (You will never be able to enjoy supermarket berries again!) And if you are really lucky, you will be there in the winter when the aurora is dancing across the clear night sky and the stars look like jewels shining down from heaven.

Lifelong Alaskans Zack and Anjanette Steer, welcome you to their home in the wilderness. Their local knowledge and hospitality will make your stay especially memorable.
